Lake Macdonald Drive (Adjacent to Noosa Botanical Gardens).

Over 60 people came to make up teams and learn how to paddle with expert instruction from the Maroochy Sea Serpents Dragon Boat Club members. Local Cooroy business, Advance Physio , entered a team as did students from the Noosa District State High School and individuals who just wanted to try the sport. As soon as they mastered the technique competitive races were held.

This was a FIRST for the Rotary Club of Cooroy and for the lake. Dragon boating is not ‘new’... people have participating in this sport for over 2000 years and there are over 50 million people worldwide who regularly hop in a dragon boat; it is a sport for all ages and crosses all cultural divides bringing people together around the globe.

The standard crew 22, comprising 20 paddlers in pairs facing toward the bow of the boat, one drummer or caller at the bow facing toward the paddlers and one steerer or sweep at the rear of the boat.

Net proceeds to charity with local disability support group Sunshine Butterflies based in Tewantin as the main beneficiary.
